Finding Shotaro in tears wasn't a surprise to John. Honestly, it would have been more of a shock if he wasn't crying. That was one of the reasons he liked him so much, he reckoned. Because they both felt deeply for their friends. John had done his best to cry himself out before he set off to find Shotaro, but seeing him the way he was brought tears back to his eyes, too.

The worst part is there was nothing to say, nothing he could do to make it all stop. So he did the only thing he could do, and that was pull Shotaro into a hug.
