EVENT - THE MILGRAM EXPERIMENT

Come one, come all! This wonderful test of brain power and courage is about to commence! What is it exactly, you ask? Well then, don't worry your little head about that one bit! The birdie here will explain it all to you.

The rules are very simple. There is a shocker and a shockee, following so far? The inmates will both be lead into different rooms. There is a glass wall that separates them, and of course a glass wall for the audience to be able to see and watch everything! Now then, the shocker will be provided with questions thanks to a digital screen. The screen itself is integrated into the table they will be seated at, as well as a button, and questions will begin to appear once the game begins. The questions start out easy then start to get harder, and if the shocker tries to tell the shockee any answers, then they will receive the electricity instead, seeing as how they are strapped down to an electric chair as well.

Sounds pretty fun so far! Either way, each pair has four questions to get through. For each question answered correctly, they will gain CP. If the shockee is unable to answer a question, or answers wrong, then it's up to the shocker to provide the pain and then they get the CP. See it's a good game where everyone is rewarded! The shockee cannot die on the first two questions, if they are to answer it wrong (or if the shocker gets the electricity instead) but they can die on the third question, and they will die on the last question if they are shocked. Now then, off to the CP count.

First = 30,000 CP
Second = 40,000 CP
Third = 50,000 CP
Fourth = 80,000 CP

Oh, and there are no extra rewards for dying in this event. The CP gained from questions and shocking will be the only CP awarded. So, comment in the proper spot with your muses entering, and then the shockers will be getting PM's with the questions!

Let it begin!

At that, Kougami laughs.

"Two hundred thousand CP, Eiji-kun. That's enough for a two-week extension on your life! Isn't it magnificent?"

He couldn't help but shudder involuntarily at Kougami's laughter. What was so funny about any of this?

"That's not worth putting someone in danger..." Still, he had to ask the questions or they'd both be in trouble. He could only hope things would work out.

"Um... I'm going to ask the first question now. Good luck, Kougami-san." He hesitated a moment before reading off the screen. "The four basic parts of the food item called 'Eggs Benedict' are what?"

"Poached eggs, English muffin, Hollandaise sauce, and ham." As much as he wanted to see Eiji seize the desire to win, Kougami couldn't help taking such an easy answer as that.

Seriously, DMWL, you're asking a white-collar criminal that question?

Eiji let the relief show on his face, even if it undoubtedly wasn't going to last very long. "You got it! Good job!"

He couldn't help but think that maybe this would work out after all. It was still the beginning, but starting out with the correct answer had to be a good sign, right?

"Okay. Round two!" He started out confidently, but when he actually read the question out loud his voice faltered a bit. "What's the real name of the person referred to as... um... Pacman the Destroyer?"

What...

Kougami made a good show of rubbing his chin and thinking about that one, but he eventually had to shrug in defeat. He grinned. "I have no idea."

Eiji gripped the arms of the chair as he waited for Kougami's answer, his nerves building up higher and higher by the second. He grimaced, not just at Kougami's unsettling smile but that he hadn't even tried to answer the question.

His gaze dropped to the button he was told to push, but he knew he couldn't do it even if he had wanted to. He absolutely refused to hurt anyone, even if that meant he'd get the punishment himself. He didn't know if Kougami was his friend, but that didn't matter. A person was a person, and if he let him be hurt just because it would save his own skin he'd never forgive himself.

"Ah... I guess this will probably hurt."

The moment the shock hit him, he couldn't stop the screams from escaping.

Kougami shook his head in regret.

Once the shock seemed to have died down, he snapped, "Eiji-kun!" All humor was gone from his countenance. "Do you intend to die here? You can live, and more than that, you can prosper with nothing more than the press of a button. Seize that opportunity!"

Eiji was nearly silent for a time, the only noise coming from him the sound of his heavy breathing. He'd never experienced any pain like that before, and the worst part was that he knew there was a good chance he would end up dead. If he came back, though, it would be okay. He couldn't go anywhere as long as he had a promise to Hina-chan to fulfill.

Once he had regained a fraction of his composure, he slowly shook his head. "I don't want to die at all, but if that's what it takes to protect you then I won't stop."

"Kougami-san," he looked to the screen and back to the man across from him, "what is the Oort Cloud?"

He had no idea what that was. He had a feeling Kougami didn't either.

Kougami did know the answer, but after a response like that he wasn't about to let Eiji get away with what he was planning. "Shock me, Eiji-kun!" he all but shouted.

"No." The resolve in Eiji's voice surprised even himself. There was a time in his past where he would have been too afraid to do what was right, but ever since the day he had made the wrong decision he had promised himself he would never make the same mistake again.

"I don't understand why you're saying those things, Kougami-san, but I'm not going to be like I used to be anymore. I won't save myself only to live with the regret."

And that was when the current ripped through his body. As the pain seared through him, he knew that he wasn't strong enough to survive it. It was the most raw, potent agony he had ever experienced. He screamed for a time, but eventually he went silent.

He was dead.

Kougami watched with interest as Eiji convulsed. That sort of moralizing was admirable, to a degree, but he couldn't abide by the level to which Eiji clung to it.

At least now he knew what the young man prized above all. He shook his head in regret. "What a waste."
