The Masquerade!

Have you signed up to go to the ball? Not everyone is going, and they don't have to! But they are highly encouraged to. Whether they have a date or not depends on how they'll be getting there. If they do have a specific date then the car that picks them up will be a regular guard car, and they will be told to get into the back and be escorted that way. The guard's cannot be harmed in their car, there is a metal blockade in the car, so sorry! For those that don't have a date, they'll be expected to get into a limo, taking about six or seven inmates at once! You might find your friends in the limo on the way there, yay!

The guards will take the inmates to a secluded spot on an entirely different island than the main one the prison is on. It's a coliseum, one that's used for special events involving horses and other fun animals. The Warden special ordered a massive tent that covers the entire coliseum, and there are heat lamps scattered about within. It's cold outside, these are a must! Around the perimeter of the tent there are several guards with loaded guns. They're standing about, watching very carefully, and if anyone tries to attack another inmate or tries to escape they will be shot on sight, no questions asked.

[ If he could have had any idea what was going on inside that pretty little mind he definitely would have been pretty impressed. Dumb broads were fun to toy with once in a while, but at the end of the day it was always more rewarding to screw with the smarter ones.

Not that he would be causing any trouble that night anyway, but just like Joan he had a set thought process and that was just how it was. ]

True, but this whole thing isn't really my bag. Too fancy for a guy like me, y'know? At least they've got some good tunes I figure.

I don't think this sort of thing is normal for most of the people here.

[ Some of them certainly seemed to blend right in, but a good portion of people seemed oddly displaced at a ball, even a masquerade-style one. ]

You're right about the music, though.

I can't imagine this stuff being normal for anyone, except for maybe that fancy lady that's always strutting around.

[ Come to think of it, he hadn't noticed her yet. Maybe it was one of those "a queen is never late" sort of things. ]

What sort of thing do you usually listen to?

There are 6-7 inmates that I would think it would be possible for it to be comfortable for.

[ But Joan watches people a lot, so she's noticed more than just the people who are trying to be obvious about how high-class they are. There are others who she's just pretty sure come from that sort of background. ]

I'm not picky, I'll listen to what's on the radio, opera, violin music- basically anything that isn't being blasted at top volume at 3am.

Looks like you've been doing your homework.

[ Scratch was all about watching people when they were putting on a show worth his time, but it never took too long for something or someone to push his patience to the limit. He could only take so much bullshit, especially around here. ]

Personally I'll give anything a shot as long as you can do some serious dancing to it.

Not much else to do when you're stuck in prison working entry-level jobs.

[ There were jobs she felt satisfied with. A surgeon, back when she still wanted that, then working with Sherlock both as a sober companion and as a consulting detective.. but nothing here was fulfilling that need. So on top of all the other stressors, she had nothing she could be proud of. Nothing she could convince herself to wake up in the morning for. Honestly, most days she just pulled the pillow over her head when the morning announcement came on lately. ]

I think that might be hard with some music.
