Just as The Ringleader promised, shortly after noon the guards retrieve a group of inmates and lead them to a stage set up just for this event.

It feels like a cheesy 80s game show, with seven seating areas for all the teams to sit comfortably. There's a table and a couch, with paper on the tables. There's a small divider between each area. Off to the side of them all is a typical white wood podium, with a big microphone. Standing behind the microphone is The Ringleader herself, who is certainly dressing the part. Of course, The Captain is at her side. Her outfit doesn't seem to reflect that she's all that excited.

The Ringleader waves to each contestant as they are led to their places. Once everyone is is "settled", she clasps the microphone and greets everyone cheerfully.

"Hello one and all! If trivia and romance is what you're searching for, look no further than this stage. Welcome to The Newlydeds game!" She waves to the audience and they cheer in response. She's really working the crowd. After a brief explanation of the rules, she and The Captain take their places as round one begins.

--

The game is simple! We'll ask you guys questions about each other, and you better hope that the answer matches theirs! If it doesn't, you just might end up love-struck.

All participants get 100k CP.
The winning team with the most correct answers wins an extra 250k CP.

Rules:
- Five questions will be given to the teams. Two to one partner, two to another. The fifth question is given to the partner who answers the most questions properly. If both answer the same amount, the person to request the fifth question is RNGed.
- When the question comes up, think of your answer and let your partner answer. Then, ICly respond whether it's right or wrong. If it's close enough (ie: "What colour are your partner's curtains?" You answer lilac, they say purple -- we'll count it as close enough), we'll respond in affirmative. Otherwise, we'll administer the punishment if it's wrong!
- If a team does not answer the majority of, or three out of five, questions correctly they lose.
- This event will require a lot of participation, so make sure to stay active!

WHEEL OF MISFORTUNE

[ After the morning announcements, something exciting happens! Yes, yes, yes-- there's flashing lights, a live studio audience..! And a rather infamous wheel that made its name into gameshow history center stage next to a large holographic board with a green backs and white blanks on the board. As the first group of inmates are escorted to their positions behind their score podiums, the crowd simultaneously chants "WHEEL... OF... MISFORTUNE!" oh-so-cheerfully!

That's when the famous Deadman Wonderland announcer speaks up... ]

Ladies, gentlemen, and all those kind enough to join us tonight: The President aaaand The Director!

[ The twins walk out onto the stage together, the Director dressed in a crisp suit and the President in a nice dress, though her hair is down as always. They literally look like they could be hosting the Wheel of Fortune TV show-- except the Director heads over to the board while the President heads near the contestants. ]

Hi everyone, I'm the President. If you're unfamiliar with the game, each pair gets to guess one letter per spin. You can only guess consonants for free, vowels cost a price. You can solve the puzzle early if you know the answer to end the game, but you will cut off chances for more CP if you do that. If the letter you guess isn't in the puzzle, the next pair gets to play. Each pair can split the CP they earn here at the end of the game.

[ She yawns for a moment, glancing over at the Director. They have some kind of weird non-verbal communication, then she turns back. ]

Let's introduce our first players...

{{ OOC: There will be individual threads for each game! Each game will have one pair threading with the President at a time. When the pair changes, the President's subject line will change with the name of the next pair up! I will also try to remind the players in each pair when it changes. There will be individual threads for each game. Do decide which pair goes first, each pair needs to reply to the President's first comment with a number 1-10. Whoever gets the number or gets closest will be the first pair to go first. One number per pair, whichever character within the pair replies first represents the pair.

Please use this if you need reference for what your character can see on the wheel as they spin it, but all spins will be RNG'd by a mod for fairness! Any special cards will be explained ICly as they appear in-game.

Shortly after the Warden's announcement, the guards enter G-Block to escort the Carnival Corpse losers to the punishment area. As usual they are rough and impatient, so anyone dumb enough to fight back will get a little pre-game roughing up.

When the screens around the prison come on, each Deadman is already strapped into a chair with the roulette wheel looming behind them in it's grotesque glory. It seems that the only member of staff present is the Doctor, who waves to the audience with her lips ever so slightly turned up into a ghost of a smile. She was silent as the off-screen announcer shared the details of the game, but those in the room could likely sense her anticipation.

"You all know why you're here, don't you?" The Doctor turns once the announcer is finished. "Then let's begin."

(ooc: When you reply, please specify what you want done to your character. You're more than welcome to pick a punishment" from the list, or RNG it for a bit of fun. You may also allow the mods to choose a punishment. If that's the case, please mark rather you want our choice to be fatal or non-fatal. You can contact us if any of our choices are out of your realm of comfort.)

Nonon is busy working away in the lounge for two reasons: to pay Philip back, and to make sure she doesn't have any more close calls like that again. Because death doesn't seem interesting, not at this time anyway.
She's just starting her shift for the first time. Who knows what kind of people she'll be waiting on..

[There's a dry smirk on his face.] I think it's probably more impressive that I stayed out of prison this long. A broken clock is right twice a day, as they say.

I have to go to school? Well, that's interesting. It seems kind of pointless, though. I already know everything I need to to survive.

And it looks like you've got quite the performance waiting for me, too. I'll be looking forward to seeing what talents there are on display. As it goes in show business, break a leg, finalists.

[Action]
[The beautiful new guy with the long dark hair in a ponytail and icy silver eyes can be found lots of places on his first day, and the last day of the Carnival Corpse. He picks up a network device at the gift shop, and goes to check out the courtyard, because he's used to being outdoors. Later, he hits the library to find some classical literature to fall into for a while. And he's going to not look happy about the captive rodents

Later on, he's tired of being around people, so he heads back to his room. Sure, he'll put a friendly mask on, but it's rather difficult and exhausting when he's worried about Shion. And he's not happy about admitting how worried he is to himself. So for now, he lounged on his bed, with a pair of books beside him, and the third in his lap. The covers read "The Aeneid", "The Complete Poetry and Prose of William Blake", and "Les Miserables". Beginning with the tale of a man that had been in prison seemed only appropriate.]

ARRIVAL; A BLOCK
[ Bright and early in the morning, the new inmates are brought in and one seems exceptionally quiet. There are no complaints coming from Djaq, just silent stares at the guards. As far as prisons go, this one has exceptional freedom but Djaq isn't one to attract attention. Not yet. The best strategy to break out is to follow along with the rules until they stop suspecting you. Then it's time to run.

So for now, Djaq appears to just be taking a seat on the floor of cell A-108, cross legged and waiting quietly. Past experiences in less advanced countries with much less accommodating prisons certainly breeds suspicion at the supposed freedom to roam here. ]

AFTERNOON; GIFT SHOP
[ After sufficient evidence that the whole relative freedom within these walls thing wasn't a cruel trick to give them an excuse to treat prisoners poorly, Djaq decided to explore and is apparently asking for strange items from the gift shop. There's not going to be any looking around, just going directly to whoever's at the cashier right then and asking. ]

I need sports instant cold pack- Ammonia nitrate should be on the package- and Lysol Brand Disinfectant Power Toilet Bowl Cleaner, and a heat-resistant glass. Can you get me these things?

John hadn't quite figured why Shotaro wanted to meet him out in an open hallway, but he trusted him enough to not question it. He knew by now that Shotaro, while occasionally too rash, was exceptionally good at what he did, and if he had this specific place in mind there was undoubtedly a reason. John just hadn't caught on to it yet.

As for why they were to meet to begin with, he could only assume it was one of two things: A, the case regarding the anonymous poster or posters, or B, the unsettling set of files they had found when investigating the Warden's office. Either situation would include Philip's involvement, which he was infinitely glad for. Things would take a lot longer if he wasn't on their side.

With not much else to do, he pulled out his communicator and began fiddling with it. He didn't want too look too much like he had no idea why he was there.

For a newcomer, Koizumi was remarkably calm. Things could have been worse. Granted, he could still think of a thousand places he'd rather be than the G block of Deadman Wonderland-- like the SOS Brigade clubroom, or his quiet apartment, or maybe a medieval torture chamber. But he wasn't in any of those places, and no amount of worrying was going to change that. If he wanted to make it through his sentence with his life and his sanity, what he needed now was information.

In the morning he took the basic ration cubes in the cafeteria on the principle that there were more important things to spend CP on, but a couple of bites were enough to change his mind. Two cups of coffee later he could still taste cardboard with undertones of cinderblock. His next stop was the gift shop to buy a communicator.

With the necessities out of the way he spent a few hours exploring the rest of the facility, making a mental map of every area he had access to with the exception of the lounge. He watched the other prisoners as he went, trying to memorize faces and first impressions. In a situation like this, he would need to know who was useful and who was dangerous. This involved more staring than was strictly polite, though he flashed a friendly smile if he was caught.

In the evening he settled down in the library with his communicator. He'd never seen a Deadman Wonderland event before. He rarely had time for TV, and even when he did it wasn't his sort of entertainment. But now it was research. He had to watch it. Not that it made him feel any better as he took in more carnage in an hour than he'd seen in a lifetime. Even with the volume muted, the images were bad enough. He tried not to look at their faces; all he needed to know was what sort of games they played, what sort of obstacles were involved, and what strategies had worked for others in the past. Even from that emotional distance, he had to stop after an hour. His hands were shaking. It wouldn't do to let anyone see him like that on his very first day.

He retreated to the courtyard for the rest of the evening, lying in the grass and staring up at the sky. Usually stargazing was calming, but it wasn't working tonight. The sliver of sky above the courtyard just felt claustrophobic. Still, it was better than being inside, so he lingered as long as he could before lights out.

When Clara heard word of the candy sale, she couldn't help but indulge herself. Money that John had given her for a manicure was saved, and she opted for this instead. She wanted to make John happy.
It had been a month's time or so since they had told each other how they felt. She wasn't even sure, she just knew every day was perfect since this moment.
And she wanted to make his day even more perfect.
So when she finished up her shopping, she made her well to his cell, and piled all the candies she had bought on his bed, hoping for him to see them when he came back from...wherever.

Being dead was significantly less interesting than Philip had anticipated. After all, it wasn't much of anything. The really interesting part was coming back to life, being disoriented for a few minutes, and then realizing what had happened.

How thrilling.

After the morning announcement, he wasted no time in barging over to Shotaro's cell. "Shotaro! Guess what!"

Shotaro hadn't gotten lost, because hard-boiled detectives don't get "lost". They explore and know their territory better than the back of their hands. A detective's shoes should be well-worn from pounding the pavement in search of leads, and those that would make his city cry.

It was during just one of these "explorations" that he found a door he'd never seen before. "Authorized Personnel Only" said the bright red letters. He didn't see any swipe card or keypad to control entry, so he crept forward and tried the door. When it opened, and no alarms went off immediately, he grinned. Beyond that door was a hallway was more doors, some with glass that revealed offices within and others solid. He took a step as though he were about to go through, but then he remembered what Philip had been requested for. This was something he should come along with.

He closed the door as quietly as he could, and walked quickly back to G-block and let himself into Philip's cell. "Hey, we've got a case, Partner. Let's go."

[For those who are in the G block, some of them might notice that there's a new arrival coming in the wee hours of the morning, before the morning announcement. It's a girl, who seems to be trembling immensely as she is put into her cell. She feels rather uncomfortable and looks rather distraught by her situation, as if she's about to cry.

Of course, she doesn't cry at all, instead looking rather melancholy. After the announcements are said and over with and she's allowed outside her cell, she doesn't speak to anybody, instead ignoring everyone as she goes about her day. In the morning, she can be found eating alone, in the corner of the cafeteria -- she's not eating anything special really, since hearing that she might possibly die if she doesn't take the candy once every seven days. The thought of that scares her. After Iori fell into the river and almost died, the thought of her dying, the thought of any of her friends dying terrified her to the core, and she hated it.

Later on in the morning and the afternoon Yui will be attending classes, trying her best to act natural, though there's something about her expression that's empty; hollow. There's no life to it whatsoever as she continuously jots down notes. After classes are done and over with, she'll be trying her best to get a job so she can earn some CP.

Which is why she can be found in the late afternoon working in the gift shop, looking a little more perky than usual, smiling at the customers and saying "Welcome!" when someone comes in. Can't look sad while working, after all! Right?]

On January 2nd, a few people are going about their everyday lives.

Philip can be found in the library for much of the morning. He's working there for a couple of hours but, for once, leaves immediately after his shift is over.

Around noon he stops by the shop to pick up a couple of things and gets distracted by trying on some clothes. It would be nice to have more than just the jumpsuit, he figures. He leaves the shop carrying a few bags and a humongous whiteboard, heading in the direction of G-Block.

That evening he has a shift in the cafeteria. He can be found with his nose in a book even as he shovels food onto other inmates' trays.

Chaplin Sukegawa is stuck on laundry duty for much of the morning and janitorial duty in the cell blocks in the evening. She can also be found in the cafeteria at meal times, and out in the courtyard for much of the afternoon. After spending so long cooped up inside, it's nice to get some fresh air. Feel free to bump into her in the halls at any point, too.

Kousei Kougami has cafeteria duty in the morning. After that he spends a couple of hours in the kitchen, and most of the afternoon out in one of the courtyards manning his cake stand. Various cakes are on sale, available whole or by the slice. He also takes special orders for anybody who would like a particular kind.

He's back in the cafeteria at dinnertime.

Have you signed up to go to the ball? Not everyone is going, and they don't have to! But they are highly encouraged to. Whether they have a date or not depends on how they'll be getting there. If they do have a specific date then the car that picks them up will be a regular guard car, and they will be told to get into the back and be escorted that way. The guard's cannot be harmed in their car, there is a metal blockade in the car, so sorry! For those that don't have a date, they'll be expected to get into a limo, taking about six or seven inmates at once! You might find your friends in the limo on the way there, yay!

The guards will take the inmates to a secluded spot on an entirely different island than the main one the prison is on. It's a coliseum, one that's used for special events involving horses and other fun animals. The Warden special ordered a massive tent that covers the entire coliseum, and there are heat lamps scattered about within. It's cold outside, these are a must! Around the perimeter of the tent there are several guards with loaded guns. They're standing about, watching very carefully, and if anyone tries to attack another inmate or tries to escape they will be shot on sight, no questions asked.

[Clara had visited John's cell so much it felt like a second home; but today was an extra-special visit. Christmas Day, something she had been planning for a long while.
She had saved all her money from the cooking competition to buy John something he'd love, a bow tie. Ever since she first met him on that fateful day, he always wore those bow ties. She grew to like them, although to be honest she thought they were dorky.
But then again, so was John.

She clutched her bag tight, and peered in the window of the cell.]

Yoo-hoo, anybody home~?

[The trial, the sentencing, everything had gone by in a blur and the next thing she knew, she'd woken up in her cell...where she cried for a large part of the day. But eventually, not being able to stand being in the room anymore, she would get up to leave. And the candy, what if someone stole it? Clutching it tightly in hand, she finally emerged from her cell, though she would give anyone she passed a dirty look, as if they were to blame.

Not that she could last very long. If you're out walking, be careful of a blonde girl blindly running back to her cell, tears in her eyes.]

After the inmates have been escorted down to the center stage, they wait around until it's time for the main event. They'll hear the intense shouting and chanting of the crowd as they anticipate what's about to go on. The inmates are told that this is a competition, that it's a show, and they are expected to put on a damn good spectacle. Don't disappoint the audience! Who knows, if someone is favored by the crowd maybe they'll receive more CP? Fun fun times for everyone!

They're ushered out and on to the stage, the lights are bright and blinding the participants. After they get used to that they notice that each section is set up with a cooking area. There are cards that have been placed at each station, with their name or names on them.

Second, of course, is able to walk around for this one. He's standing off to the side, staring at the inmates as they come in. He tells them to head to their spot and he might come around to check up on people during this.

The rules: Cook anything that you think will win you the prize. Second is the judge, and he's an exceptional cook though he might not look it. Jazz it up, make it fancy, and above all else- edible. The winners will receive 500,000 CP if they win, and 100,000 CP if they lose.

Let the games begin!
avibusraris: (Second {1})
[personal profile] avibusraris
The inmates are set to gather for this lovely event, and Second is ready for them.

They'll be ushered from their cells, forcibly pulled along by the guards if need be. First they'll be brought to the cafeteria and forced to wait. The event needs time to set up of course, need to get the audience in the mood for such a thing. The people watching have already been informed that this is all staged and no inmates will actually be harmed. Deadman Wonderland is a place with all sorts of new technology, including graphics in real time, so no need to worry. This will be a painful experience for the criminals here, but that's only natural.

After being allowed to mingle in the cafeteria everyone will be told to leave. They'll be pushed and pulled in a single-file line until reaching the center stage. The crowd cheers at seeing them, lights flashing in the audience as they take pictures.

A voice booms as soon as they're all out on stage.

"Welcome inmates!" a man calls out to them from his pedestal. He's standing on a platform that's too far away for anyone to reach. Out on center stage are walls set up, inside there is a single table and chair.

"Everyone, this is the event you've been waiting for! I'm sure our audience just can't wait for ya to begin! Your Warden sends her apologies that she can't be out here to see you for herself, but she's a pretty confidential lady- y'know? Don't worry though, she's listenin' and watching and I got her voice in my ear via radio. Now let's begin and I'll explain the rules!"

Each inmate is shown where they go, their names written on the table even. As they sit, Second gets ready to begin.

Would You Rather?

Second will ask each inmate which they would rather do and they must do one of those things. If they don't, then they die. If they don't complete all four rounds, whether it be from dying or passing out, then they forfeit. Each inmate can win if they survive all four rounds, and the winner will receive 1 million CP.

Your character's names are set up, and just comment to the right name and Second will begin.
