The Masquerade!
The guards will take the inmates to a secluded spot on an entirely different island than the main one the prison is on. It's a coliseum, one that's used for special events involving horses and other fun animals. The Warden special ordered a massive tent that covers the entire coliseum, and there are heat lamps scattered about within. It's cold outside, these are a must! Around the perimeter of the tent there are several guards with loaded guns. They're standing about, watching very carefully, and if anyone tries to attack another inmate or tries to escape they will be shot on sight, no questions asked.

So here's the first wallflower of the night, though she may look more like a butterfly hanging out amongst the other wall flowers. Hey, she was trying to keep her mind off of things. If it was a masquerade, might as well go full-blown with the masquerade theme. Even if now she's just kind of lingering off to the side. ]

If you don't mind me saying so, that costume of yours is pretty snazzy.

Mask looked like a skull, which meant that the person either had a sense of humor or they were well-acquainted with death, or focused largely on the idea of death. Or maybe just thought skulls were cool, but since he wasn't a teenager it probably wasn't in an attempt to fit in with a certain group or just because it looked fun. Or really it could just be that it was the first thing he picked up. The outfit itself seemed crisp and clean too, so that spoke to the idea that it wasn't just to look cool. Professional. She'd lean more toward him being acquainted with death in some way or it being ironic.
Though, really, everyone here was acquainted with death by now unless they just arrived. Maybe for once she should stop thinking about it, even if it was a comfort to try to break things down like Sherlock had taught her. She didn't have enough information yet. ]
Well, it is a masquerade. If you're going to dress up, might as well dress up.

Not that he would be causing any trouble that night anyway, but just like Joan he had a set thought process and that was just how it was. ]
True, but this whole thing isn't really my bag. Too fancy for a guy like me, y'know? At least they've got some good tunes I figure.

[ Some of them certainly seemed to blend right in, but a good portion of people seemed oddly displaced at a ball, even a masquerade-style one. ]
You're right about the music, though.

[ Come to think of it, he hadn't noticed her yet. Maybe it was one of those "a queen is never late" sort of things. ]
What sort of thing do you usually listen to?

[ But Joan watches people a lot, so she's noticed more than just the people who are trying to be obvious about how high-class they are. There are others who she's just pretty sure come from that sort of background. ]
I'm not picky, I'll listen to what's on the radio, opera, violin music- basically anything that isn't being blasted at top volume at 3am.

[ Scratch was all about watching people when they were putting on a show worth his time, but it never took too long for something or someone to push his patience to the limit. He could only take so much bullshit, especially around here. ]
Personally I'll give anything a shot as long as you can do some serious dancing to it.

[ There were jobs she felt satisfied with. A surgeon, back when she still wanted that, then working with Sherlock both as a sober companion and as a consulting detective.. but nothing here was fulfilling that need. So on top of all the other stressors, she had nothing she could be proud of. Nothing she could convince herself to wake up in the morning for. Honestly, most days she just pulled the pillow over her head when the morning announcement came on lately. ]
I think that might be hard with some music.
