The Masquerade!

Have you signed up to go to the ball? Not everyone is going, and they don't have to! But they are highly encouraged to. Whether they have a date or not depends on how they'll be getting there. If they do have a specific date then the car that picks them up will be a regular guard car, and they will be told to get into the back and be escorted that way. The guard's cannot be harmed in their car, there is a metal blockade in the car, so sorry! For those that don't have a date, they'll be expected to get into a limo, taking about six or seven inmates at once! You might find your friends in the limo on the way there, yay!

The guards will take the inmates to a secluded spot on an entirely different island than the main one the prison is on. It's a coliseum, one that's used for special events involving horses and other fun animals. The Warden special ordered a massive tent that covers the entire coliseum, and there are heat lamps scattered about within. It's cold outside, these are a must! Around the perimeter of the tent there are several guards with loaded guns. They're standing about, watching very carefully, and if anyone tries to attack another inmate or tries to escape they will be shot on sight, no questions asked.

I'm fine. [ he frowns ] I guess that's what happens in the middle of the dance floor.

[ finally noticing Tidus's mask since he's closer, he pokes the sun on it ] You got a mask with a sun on it. I thought for sure it would be something with water on it...you know, you being a swimmer and all. [ he's trying to be nice! ] Listen, I'm sorry for ignoring you. Just have fun tonight and forget about that. It's the only night that we'll probably be able to feel kind of normal again...

[sinspawn]

Maybe you should move.

[he follows his hand with his eyes, shrugging.] Just because swimming's part of my life doesn't mean it's the only part of my life. Going by that, I'd figure you'd wear a football helmet with a mask on it instead. [he smirks.] Why'd you choose that one anyway? It's not bad, but it stands out. Don't worry about it. [his smile falls, shoulders sinking.] Yeah, no kidding.

Well you have to move too since we're talking.

Yeah, it's kind of weird... I don't know, I just grabbed one that looked nice. It looks like antlers. [ he sighed ] Don't be upset, that's why you have to be happy and quit getting mad.

You move first.

It does look nice. Are deer a favorite animal of yours? [he glances at him again.] I don't want to be the last night I feel normal. But you're right. We should enjoy it for now.

Thanks. Um, not really... I don't have a favorite animal. It was kind of earthy...so it reminded me of football. But-- [ and now he's walking before he gets hit again ] Tidus, beggars can't be choosers, especially in a prison.

Did you come here with anyone? I didn't see you with a date earlier.

[sinspawn]

Uh...how about back over there?

Wait, wait, did you just say what I think you said? [he follows him, a bounce in a step despite the passion behind his words.] So what should I do? Just give up and stay in this prison?

No. I didn't see any point since... Did you?

[darkerearth]

Over where? There? [ and he points, heading that way before Tidus can even answer ]

Hey, I never said that. Nobody should be in a place like this. I know people do wrong...but this place doesn't help make it any better.

...No, I didn't. I don't know anyone that well.

[sinspawn]

[he's not really paying attention when he answers.] Sure.

But we are here, regardless of whether or not we deserve it. Getting out is gonna be hard. Let's not worry about it right now.

Same. Even if I did, it would just feel...it wouldn't feel right.

[darkerearth]

That's true.

...Why would it be such a big deal? You don't have a girlfriend or anything.

[sinspawn]

[his expression becomes a little more closed off.] Yeah, you're right, I don't. But I still don't want to just randomly pick someone. Especially when there's someone you care about. I don't know, it just doesn't sit right with me.

[darkerearth]

[ terra doesn't catch on at first because he has the dumb. but after a second, he looks over at him and tilts his head ]

You do have a girlfriend then! Maybe not officially or anything, but still... I thought you were always in a commited relationship with the water.

[sinspawn]

[he groans again, sounding a little tired.]

Terra. I'll probably never even see her again. Not all of us can be satisfied with dating our sport like you.

[darkerearth]

That--That isn't true. [ he frowns and crosses his arms ]

...Why are you being so negative? I thought you of all people wouldn't give up anytine soon and now you sound like you are.

[sinspawn]

What isn't true? That you're in love with football?

I'm not giving up, I just don't want to get her involved is all. Once I escape. She's already been through a lot.

[darkerearth]

Yes, that's not true. It was just...like a hobby.

Oh, well you made it sound like you were.

[sinspawn]

Oh. Just a hobby, huh?

I'm not so sure why you're so concerned anyway. I mean, thanks. It's nice of you, but you don't have to like, force yourself to care. Worry about yourself, okay?

[darkerearth]

I don't want to talk about it...

No, you made it sound like you were giving up. It's just not like you. It's...weird. And I'm not forcing myself to do anything-- [ he gives a big sigh ]

[sinspawn]

[he can get that. what are the chances he'll ever play football again even if he gets out of here? he lets the subject drop.] Okay.

No offense Terra, but how do you know what I'm like? We didn't interact that much in school--we're not even on the same teams. Look, don't worry. I'm fine.

[darkerearth]

No, but you were like the spokesperson for your team. You always boasted about how great you guys were, that you worked harder than the football team, and that you were going to nationals...or whatever you guys call it. I might not have spoken to you much, but I was watching.

...Whatever. Just forget it. [ once they're to the corner, he puts his back against the wall with his arms still crossed ]

[sinspawn]

State meets. Swimmers don't get nationals. You were really watching, weren't you?

[he just stares at him oddly in silence, his own arms at his sides.]

It wasn't like I was stalking you.

I wanted to show you up about what you were saying all the time. So we started working harder and that could be why football players picked on you guys for a while... I told them to stop, but they don't listen. [ he paused ] They weren't all that horrible...but some of them should be here with us though.

[sinspawn]

Didn't say you were. Were you stalking me?

You? Wanted to show me up. [he shakes his head, looking off, almost as if he can't believe it.] I figured they just needed someone to pick on. I wouldn't say that. Sure, a lot of them are jerks, but no one should be here. You said it yourself.

[darkerearth]

I just said that I wasn't.

Yeah, you called us out. [ he sighed ] They were mean. Anyone who didn't worship them and didn't think that they were the greatest needed to be picked on.

[sinspawn]

But by saying it you make it sound like you're trying to sound less suspicious about it. [he's teasing him.]

Tell me about it. They couldn't take their punches, either.

[darkerearth]

But I wasn't! That would be really creepy.

Yeah, and they would pick on each other if that makes it any worse. But they all seemed to come together when it was time for a game. It was really something to see.
